In consultation with the other partners, the Association of Public Libraries (Vereniging Openbare Bibliotheken – VOB) and the Central Discotheque of Rotterdam (Centrale Discotheek Rotterdam – CDR) have withdrawn from the Images for the Future consortium.

The Netherlands Institute for Sound and Vision and the Nationaal Archief (National Archive) have entered into a unique five-year cooperative alliance concerning the use of the Joint Thesaurus Audiovisual Archives (Gemeenschappelijke Thesaurus Audiovisuele Archieven), GTAA. Both institutes are already working together in the framework of Images for the Future.

During History Week (October 17 until October 25 2009) Knowledgeland and the National Archive will present the website MapIt1418. “War and Peace” is the theme of the week and this initiative corresponds nicely to it: the site gives access to an exceptional selection of First World War photo material from the National Archive. On this site special attention is given to photos from the Netherlands during the time of war, many of which have never been displayed before.
The Library of Congress and Flickr together announced a pilot to put a selection of the photo collection of the LOC on Flickr. The community will tag. Will it also capture the imagination of othe (...)
Today, November 11, 2008 is the 90th anniversary of Armistice Day, the day the First World War came to an end. In addition to the two newest members of the Commons on Flickr, the Australian War Memorial and the Imperial War Museum, all members shared their photographs under the “Armistice Day” tag.
