National Archives & Spaarnestad Photo join Wikipedia!

06 September 2010 On 13 September 2010 the Nationaal Archief and Spaarnestad Photo will donate more than 1,000 photos to Wikimedia Netherlands, part of Wikipedia. Wikipedia is the largest online encyclopaedia in the world and is, moreover, entirely written and maintained by users. There is a substantial demand for images to illustrate the encyclopaedia entries, but in many cases the photographic material is not available legally.

Taking Pictures To The Public - Evaluation

10 August 2009 On October 21, 2008 the Nationaal Archief and Spaarnestad Photo were the first Dutch heritage institutions to place a small selection of their photos on Flickr The Commons, the ‘archives section’ in the popular online photo community Flickr. This initiative is part of a series of pilot projects that are being developed within Images for the Future in order to conduct research on involving the broad audience in photographic collections and metadata generation.
