Inrichten infrastructuur

Digitaliseren is vooral nuttig, als het gedigitaliseerde materiaal in een formaat wordt opgeslagen dat kwalitatief hoogstaand is en nog een tijd mee kan. Maar vooral van belang is dat er gemakkelijk mee gewerkt kan worden. Het materiaal krijgt namelijk pas echt betekenis als het gekoppeld kan worden aan interessante diensten en toepassingen. Hiervoor is een infrastructuur (back end) nodig die als platform dient voor alle modules die er in de toekomst op worden aangesloten (front end).

Film on Demand

Last week a report outlining the economic importance of the film industry in Holland was officially presented to government representative Boris van der Ham. The report, commissioned by Filmwereld , an association of filmmakers, theaters, rental stores and other distribution channels, shows a clear but grim picture: in 2005 the film industry lost over 10% (82 million Euro) in revenue through illegally downloaded films. What do young filmmakers want?

Nisimasa, a European network of young film professionals, students and enthusiasts for European cinema, devoted their March edition of their online magazine to the topic Film Archives. According to chief editor Caroline Fournier, young film professionals don’t really know much about this topic and are closed off because of bad access. At the same time archives have great potential to contribute to their future work through reuse of the material.

Evaluatie multi-touchtafel in bibliotheken

Een van de nieuwe manieren om audiovisueel erfgoed te presenteren is de multi-touchtafel, die de VOB in 2009 heeft ingezet in bibliotheken tijdens de campagne Nederland Leest. De tafel is een interactief computerscherm (Microsoft Multi touch table) dat door meerdere mensen tegelijk bediend kan worden. De speciale applicatie bevatte een schat aan foto’s, films en manuscripten over de schrijfster Hella Haasse en haar roman Oeroeg.
